LAUGHTER YOGA

What a great way to exercise – and you get a good workout practising Laughter Yoga Developed by a medical doctor – Dr Madan Kataria in India, who noticed patient’s recovery from illness was much improved in those who laughed with their family and friends. He developed what we now know as Laughter Yoga and it is now practised internationally. If you laugh unconditionally – not reliant on funny jokes, other people, being “in the mood” – you have a great source of positivity at your fingertips.

Laughter Yoga

Laughter Yoga allows you to laugh in a sustained way – far more than “social situations” allow us to normally do. This normal laughter lasts only a few seconds – we want to deliberately sustain it for longer.

Our laughter in Laughter Yoga is deeper – involving the diaphragm – a real belly laugh!

Laughter Yoga doesn’t leave laughter to chance – you no longer need to have heard or seen something funny – which sometimes in our lives might not happen even once a day. And a day without a belly laugh is a wasted day!

And scientifically – your body cannot differentiate between real laughter and voluntary or simulated laughter – it gets to work producing the happy hormones anyway. And our laughter, started deliberately, quickly becomes real with all the contagious effect of the other people in the class.

It is great fun and has many benefits including energising people in the workplace, all the extra oxygen we breathe in through Laughter Yoga improves performance and efficiency. Health benefits include improving our immune system, reducing stress, elevating our mood, faster healing, connecting us to others (isolation and loneliness are bad for our health) and helps building resilience.

We have our Laughter Yoga Club - every first Sunday of the month in Wokingham – please see full details and book on Eventbrite. It is free to attend – we just ask for donations to cover the cost of the venue hire.
